Politics of Knowledge and African Futures
Knowledge creates reality (ontology is made of epistemology). Knowledge has become a key site of struggles and contestations across the modern world. Universities have become the key sites of resurgent and insurgent decolonization of the 21st century. On the one hand, is the discourse of global economy of knowledge and the drive towards internationalization of education including its commercialization and commodification in line with coloniality of markets, and on the other, are decolonial questions of relevance of knowledge, epistemic freedom, and cognitive justice as key ingredients in the shaping of African futures free from colonialism, capitalism, and patriarchy. Research inquiry is into the changing ideas of the university in general and universities in Africa in particular, the ongoing contestations over knowledge, and how decolonization shapes African futures.
